SEPTEMBER SUNDAY MUSIC SERIES CONCERT TO FEATURE QUINCY UNIVERSITY FACULTY

Christine Damm, DMA, dean of 全球赌博十大网站’s School of Fine 艺术s and Communication, will present Regrets and Resolutions by Gary Schocker for Clarinet and Piano. This piece opens with, 然后返回到, 全面, ethereal melodies which are then interrupted by fast passages of dancing runs, bright embellishments, and playful interaction with the piano. 作曲家, 自己, is an adept instrumentalist, which is reflected in the virtuosity of this piece.

Bill Machold, MM, director of bands, will perform “Footpath” by Dave Samuels for Marimba. This piece was an improvised solo consisting of three different themes linked together; therefore, the transcription of the work lends itself to further improvisation by the performer.

克里斯汀拉姆齐, MM, 唱诗班主任, will present the aria “Je dis que rien ne m’épouvante” from the opera 卡门 乔治·比才. 在咏叹调中, the character Micaëla describes the dangerous task of finding the smuggler’s camp to bring her love, 唐何塞, 回家. She prays to God for the strength and courage to accomplish the task she has been given.

Together, Bill Machold and 克里斯汀拉姆齐 will perform Three Poems by Antonio Machado for Soprano and Marimba, composed by Mark Vance. This work is a setting of English translations of three poems by Antonio Machado, a Spanish poet from the turn of the century, whose exquisite blend of mystical, 精神上的, 道德, 象征性的, and reflective imagery is what defines him as a preeminent poet. The captivating sound of the voice and marimba achieve richness and warmth unique to the collaboration of these instruments.

Darren Lillard will perform 阳光之光 by contemporary composer, Amy Quate. The lyrical Saxophone melodies contrasted with dramatic scalic passages depict the brightest star in the heavens, 天狼星, 现在叫天狼星, which represents the goddess Isis, whose light confines the cycles of nature which bring beauty, 繁荣, 和生活.

The University Faculty Showcase will also feature a duet performance by guest soprano, Allison迫降, QU Assistant Director of 招生 Communications, with 克里斯汀拉姆齐. Laura Kammerer, instructor of piano, will accompany performances.

Adjunct faculty Dr. Catherine Martinez, trumpet; Sara Devine, flute; and Chad Ensiger, viola, will round out the program.
